How does one become a food stylist? It's one of those professions that I think is somewhat exotic, mainly because it seems so unattainable, something that an elite few do. I base that on nothing whatsoever, aside from my own, sometimes warped, ideas. It's one of those vocations that I wish I'd known of to consider when I started working. Of course my 17 year old self didn't really give much consideration at all to what I wanted to do, let alone consider arranging food for a living. That teenage self seems so terribly young and uninformed now.

At times my 40 year old self wishes I'd realised sooner the things I'm good at and that I enjoy, but honestly I think more than anything I believe in time and place. The things I have now are only here because of what's come before. I really don't regret decisions once they're made, perhaps I really believe in destiny...

Very ripe nectarines and plums equals a delicious tea cake.

I suspect all 17 year-old selves are very young and uninformed. I know mine was! And I agree that everything happens as it's meant to, due to all that has come before it.

PS Beautiful looking cake!

Oh I know what you mean, I am still working for the same people that I made that decision @ 16. Not the best decision perhaps but then again, when you get older I think you end up with so many other great things to fulfil your life it isn't as important as it felt at 16 either

Your tea cake looks just amazing! I can just imagine the taste. Is it a personal creation?

Oh yum, now I feel like cake for breakfast!

My 17 year old self seems like another person to me now....one I know but oh so different. It helps me to not be so judgmental of the decisions of young people now.

Ah yes, the 17 year old self Vs. the 40 year old self. Sometimes I wish I could go back there. Other times I wouldn't go back for anything.

But I do know that tea cake looks fantastic!

The more we experience life, the more we know what is available to us. It's never too late to discover one's passions--look at Julia Child. She didn't even start her career until she was in her 40s!

The cake looks delish! You're already a great food stylist. No training needed. Keep it up!
