This is something I've had as an idea for a little while now. It's a design I've borrowed from Orla, because I just love it so much. The application idea came from a quilt that Soo made which I love. I had a sneak peek at the Material Obsession book and decided that I didn't need the book and would just wing it.

Now the materials I first saw here and immediately fell for, with no idea what I would create with them. I remembered them for a while until Tamara also gifted me some offcuts she got when visiting Patchwork on Central, just because I'd mentioned I liked them. So, the two ideas fused and this is the beginnings of ... something. Stem and bindings to come of course, but I can't say more than that, because it is a gift for someone I know may be reading. I love the handsewing though, keeping my hands (and mind) active.

A girlfriend recently asked me how I squeeze in all the extras that I do, by that she meant the extra cooking and the crafting activities. To me, there's no squeezing in, it's just that I have to make time for those things. If I didn't do those things that some perceive as extras then life would be, well, very routine. I can't imagine not having a project or idea on the go - or filling a spare 15 minutes with baking a cake. I love escapist tele as much as the next person, but only when something is occupying my hands. That's the stuff that makes my day out of the ordinary, more than just washing, cleaning and tending to others. That's the good stuff.

Here, here. If I only did the household chores I would go insane!

Gorgeous colours and lovely hand stitching.

Yes with you on that one - needing something daily to avoid frustration. Keeps you fresh and looking forward to something...

Lovely colours - I hope the person really liked what you have done!

So true Victoria. Those little things are something that seem to gratify the innermost part of your being. It's like a flurry of butterflies in your tummy when you think of those special creative moments for you. Even reading or writing a simple note can be all that is needed.
Even more so when the resulting work is as beautiful as what you're putting together.
Hope the girl's are seetling into their school routines well!

What a beautiful piece! 'Someone' is absolutely going to love their pressie :) So beautiful!
Not sure if you have visited my blog recently, I have sent you the 'beautiful blogger award'! I thought very appropriate. I enjoy your blog, your ideas and creativity very much. Hoping you'll be able to tackle the task of compiling a list of 7 interesting things about yourself :)

I was at an orientation for my son's school. The principal said that our brain activity actually flatlines when we watch T.V., meaning no brain activity whatsoever. Doesn't that sound awful?! Your projects always sound and look great! Gorgeous piece.

Glad the fabric has found a use.

Totally agree with you on the little bits of creativeness that give life its meaning.
Thats why I can never do a five day menu plan. Who knows what I will feel like eating on Tuesday? It is all about feeling and the enjoyment that comes from that inspiration.

This is just gorgeous. I have to be doing something else when watching television too. I've even been known to read a magazine whilst watching a DVD and vacuum. See why I do a lot of things by myself ;)

The stitching is just gorgeous V!!! and I bought that same moda pack last year - obviously we (and Tamara) both have great taste!

I'm anxiously awaiting the time when I can have a basket of goodies (knitting and needlework) sitting in front of the tv, but with a 2 yr old on the loose.....

Crafting is my sanity too!
