Encouraging creativity

can mean cleaning up a lot of mess.

At times I find it difficult, with the difference in ages, to always find activities that both girls are able to participate in fully. Ella's obviously much more co-ordinated and also, let's face it, cleaner and neater. I feel mean even saying that but you do have to be in the right state of mind to start activities when you know full well that you're going to have half an hour of cleaning afterwards. I know that's being a mother and perhaps I'm more selfish than some, but I do need to be in the right state of mind.

So yesterday was painting day and any reservations I had were removed when I was reminded how much Leila loves it, regardless of the low paint onto paper ratio.

I love the look on the face, she really does look like she is having a ball. I find it a battle to get my 3 year old doing anything crafty, takes forever to set up and clean for him to take 3 pokes at the paint. Ooohh the joys of motherhood.

:) She looks great!
When I was having a workshop for 4-8 years old in winter, some of the kids looked like Ella on the photos.

You are right. It is a hurdle to overcome to just allow that huge mess. But it's worth it, isn't it? For them and us?

Leila is a real artist and artists are allowed to get messy! It is really wonderful of you to let her loose on the paint. She's quite enjoying herself isn't she? Leila is a budding artist.
