I need some advice. I have finally finished piecing the top pieces for this but am not sure how to proceed from here. The inspiration was taken from Soo's Material Obsession quilt with a bit of Orla Kierly thrown in because, frankly, why not?

I'm going to frame around in a red matching the stems, with some wadding and a white backing for the top piece, but do I quilt it? If so, what colour so it doesn't detract (can you get clear thread?) and what pattern? If I don't quilt, how can I adhear the wadding quilt top and backing to each other so that it stays together moving forward?

Really not sure about this one, any ideas welcomed.

You will have to do some form of quilting to make the batting/wadding to stay in place. There is no real right or wrong way to do it, it is more personal preference. You can get prof. quitled or do hand sewing or you can do knots. If you want to quilt the red strips in red or you could quilt in white around every 2nd or 3rd shape. It depends how much you want to do, the last one would be my prefereence but it would take a shile to hand quilt it.
You will find it heaps easier if you use some basting spray to hold the 3 peices together - front wadding and back and you will need to safety pin it LOTS so that it all stays together while you sew it.
Not sure where you are but there is a needle point shop on Glenferrie Rd, Malvern that has a great floss selection to ger the best colour match.
I am a novice but if there is anything that I can do to help - just let me know

Yes quilt it...

yes you can buy clear thread - only a couple of brands out there that are really good... I can mail one up if my shop has any that is super good.

Ummm how to quilt. Well I am thinking each of the designs - say 1/4 inside or outside them - I know this will take for ever. OR if you want just get a long arm to do it for you!!!! They have lots of designs to choose!

See, if I was going to say anything, it would be like the blind leading the blind, so I'm just going to look meaningfully over there at Cindy, while suggesting that that is one heck of a gorgeous quilt top you have there and demanding that you do not stop!

You know I'm useless with anything to do with sewing but I just say do anything in red :)

what about adding a frame around each piece and quilting that with a simple running stitch. I did something similar http://dearmolly.wordpress.com/2008/09/19/recent-projects/
and was happy with the outcome. Let's have coffee at mine and you can have a look!
