Ponyo

We've been meaning to go for weeks, finally today we managed it.

Ella's been to the movies many times, Leila (at 2 1/2) only once before. On that occasion (Madagascar II) she didn't sit still much at all, preferring to run along the aisles. I was hesitant this morning, wondering how successful it would be with the four of us going, but figured what the heck.

I have to say, I don't think the girls have ever been so engrossed in a movie - Leila did not move at all. Ponyo is wonderful - I loved it, the animation is great, the story wonderful - nothing not to like. If you haven't seen it - do - I'm not sure it will run much longer. Remember though, if you don't want to have to read subtitles all the way through, be sure to go to an English dubbed session.

Not the sweats

The girls and I have been under the weather, me for about the last week, them for longer. Sore throat, coldy, fatigued and the sweats.

Yesterday we were oustide most of the day, it was so lovely, but at one point I thought "I'm really not well, I'm seriously sweating here". On the news last night it said it was 29C in Melbourne, in September - gorgeous day, but what's going on, we're still in Spring here!

Friday Night Movie

Do you know that I've never actually had a fish and chip shop hamburger? Never. Is that unusual, I think it may be. This is how they wrap them though and somehow it makes them all the more delicious.

It was all her idea

Tomorrow is Father's Day and we have had a tradition with Geoff of taking him out for yum cha - I think we've done it for the last 3 years, this will be the 4th. That means there's no opportunity for the girls to make him breakfast.

This morning while I was in the shower Geoff took Leila to the shops for milk, paper etc. I could hear Ella clattering in the kitchen, it actually sounded like she was drying up dishes. When I was dried and dressed I came out and she'd set the table as you see it and was in the process of mixing up pikelets - I kid you not!

I helped her cook, although having her near hot pans gives me the heebie jeebies. She wanted to make an early Father's Day breakfast for dad since she wouldn't be able to do it tomorrow. It will be fun, I know, it always is - the yum cha - but perhaps next year I should leave what we do to the girls, it is their dad we're celebrating after all.

Friday Night Movie

I mentioned last week that the girls have what they like on Friday nights for dinner and also watch a movie while they eat in the lounge room.

This week it was Barbie and the 12 Dancing Princesses (we're having a Barbie fest at the moment around here) and homemade Chinese takeout. Fried rice with fresh peas, corn and snowpeas and steamed dim sims. All delivered by me, the Chinese restauranteur (complete with bad accent I'm afraid) and eaten with gusto.

Oh for a camera

I saw the most wonderful sight this morning on the way to work. It was 5:40am , when from behind the trees along the freeway the moon appeared and literally took my breath away. It was on its way down, sitting so low in the sky, full and huge, seeming bigger than I’ve ever seen it before. It was really creamy this morning, not white, and I could clearly see all its craters and undulations shadowed over the surface. I couldn’t stop and after that flash it was behind the trees and when I’d finally reached another break it was gone altogether. If only I’d had a camera. I wished I could have chased it wherever it was going.
